You can find a lot of information on an opportunity by doing what is called a whois search. This search tells you about the registered owner of the website, how long the server site is secured for and who the ISP is and there is even contact details which you can verify for yourself by contacted the site owner.

A more detailed list

Interview both written and telephone.
Notarized copy of ID of the program manager (and or trader)
Original utility bill of the program manager (and or trader)
Bank reference of the program manager (and or trader)
Professional reference of the program manager (and or trader)
Notarized incorporation papers including apostille (If Applicable)
Bank account details of the program
Landline phone number with direct access to the office of the program manager (and or trader)
Trading reports, logging directly into their trade accounts, live Web Conference where they can show proof of trading or other Business Activities which result in profit to pay to members of the program.

Some Other Considerations

Check scam lists - you can do this by putting 'scam' in a google search or putting the 'opportunity name scam' in a google search or 'opportunity name problem' in a google search
Check forums - but beware of poor quality or false information, use only if you are familiar with the forum and the members who are posting - there are many situations where forum inforamtion is inaccurate and mis-leading
Do test withdrawal with small amounts to test their systems
Beware of sudden changes bonus offers, change in plans etc. especially if they offer more - this is a signal that there may be something suspicious going on or about to happen.
